Stetson University is a private, coeducational, liberal arts university situated in Deland, Florida, United States. It was established in the year 1883. The main campus of Stetson covers 175 acres. The university also operates two satellite campuses. U.S. News and World Report’s ‘America's Best Colleges’ (2008 edition) ranked Stetson 2nd in the category of Southern Masters-granting institutions. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs. It is organized into the following academic schools and colleges:

  • College of Law
  • School of Business Administration
  • School of Music

Stetson fields both men’s and women’s sports teams. It is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The teams compete on a Division I level in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Their official mascot is the Hatter.

Stetson University Selectivity

Admission to Stetson University is not automatic; not everyone who applies gets in. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 500. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 480 and 590. Many applicants are from out of state, an indication of the quality or special character of the school.

Faculty

The school maintains a faculty/student ratio (full-time) which is better than most colleges. Stetson University has a tenure system for senior faculty. The full-time faculty at the school is well-paid, which often goes with faculty quality.

Full-time students are the norm at the school. Stetson University offers dorm rooms to a higher percentage of its students than do most colleges. The school values student athletics, and belongs to the Atlantic Sun Conference.
