Overview
Founded in 1975 in Largo, Florida, Sunstate Academy is a Redken Premier School with qualified instructors who have Redken professional training and salon experience. Located today in Clearwater, Florida, Sunstate uses a combination of theory and hands-on training to prepare students for careers as professional stylists or manicurists. Local salon owners and stylists regularly act as guest speakers and trainers, exposing students to different experiences and techniques and allowing them to make contact with professionals working in the field.

Areas of Study
Sunstate's programs include career training in Cosmetology, Massage Therapy, and Nail Technician. The Cosmetology program prepares students for positions as entry-level cosmetologists, nail technicians or makeup artists. The Massage Therapy program can put graduates well on their way to becoming professional massage therapists in as little as 5 months. The Nail Technician program gives students the grounding needed to obtain a good job in the field.
Admissions
Applicants should contact the Academy for information on setting up an appointment with a school official who will familiarize the applicant with its facilities and policies. At that time, the applicant will complete a general information sheet and will have the opportunity to sign an application for admission.
Faculty
Sunstate is a Redken Premier School whose instructors have received Redken professional training in addition to their own salon experiences. In addition to teaching cosmetology techniques, faculty members also impart the importance of building and maintaining a client base and how to evaluate the needs and wants of customers.
Student Body
Students at Sunstate are creative, imaginative individuals who like being around people. They are motivated to turn their enthusiasm into a lucrative and satisfying career in cosmetology.
Student Life
The Clearwater location has over 11,000 square feet consisting of dozens of styling chairs and many other training tools. Adjoining the salon area are six client treatment rooms for skin care and massage therapy. The student lounge has a refrigerator, two microwaves, coffee makers, soda and vending machines. There are four classrooms equipped with whiteboard, TV, DVD and VCR, student desk and chairs for classroom activities. The Massage Therapy program classroom has ten massage tables as well as several reference books and student aids.
