Overview of Art Institute Online
Launched in 2000, The Art Institute Online provides its students with career-oriented creative arts education combined with the schedule flexibility and convenience of online schooling. The school offers more than a dozen different programs, both degree and non-degree granting.
The Art Institute Online is a division of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, an art and design school with an 80+ year history of creative arts education. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, which is an accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is part of the Art Institutes, a collection of art and design schools stretching across the United States.

Students enrolled at The Art Institute Online can select programs from within several categories of study such as Arts, Design and Hospitality. A specific list of programs can be found below. Successful program completion can lead to a diploma, associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree.
The Art Institute Online Admissions
Admission to the school requires following a few simple steps but the school’s admission policy is generally non-competitive. Students must have complete high school with at least a C average (2.0 GPA) or possess a GED passed with a score of at least 225. Alternatively, the applicant can submit evidence of an associate’s degree earned at another accredited institution.
Qualified students who attend The Art Institute Online may be eligible for Federal post-secondary aid programs such as Pell Grants, Stafford loans, work/study, and other kinds of assistance. Students may also qualify for aid from other sources. One of the services that the school offers is advice and help from its Financial Aid Service team.
Faculty Quality
In addition to the normal academic and experiential qualifications, faculty members at the school are required to successfully complete a training course about the nuances of online instruction.
The Art Institute Online Student Body
There are more than 3000 students participating in the school’s online programs. Students are geographically distributed within and outside the boundaries of the United States. Graduating students are invited to physically join cap and gown ceremonies and a portfolio review show where students showcase the product of their academic efforts to employers.
