Initially, it used to share facility and faculty with Trinidad High School. In the fall season of 1935, the college was moved to its present location on Prospect Street. It offers more than 40 degree programs in various vocational and academic fields.

The sports teams of Trinidad State Junior College are known as the Trojans. The official mascot of the college teams is the Trojan. Students from TSJC participate in various intercollegiate sports events, including basketball, softball, baseball, golf, and volleyball.
