United States Military Academy, USMA, is a federal military academy in West Point, New York. Also known as West Point, it was established in 1802 making it the oldest service academy in the USA. It sits on a campus of 15,974 acres and awards a Bachelor of Science degree. Military instruction, physical instruction, and academics form several aspects of the curriculum at USMA. The academy has 11 centers of excellence.
USMA at West Point sponsors baseball, basketball, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track, and wrestling teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. All cadets are required to participate in at least one sport at the intercollegiate, intramural or club level every semester. Cadets can choose from over a hundred clubs and organizations. No tuition fees are charged and cadets are given free food and other amenities. In exchange cadets have to provide two years of active and three years of reserve duty after graduation.
