The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, popularly referred to as UAMS, was established in 1879. It is a public college and is located in Arkansas, United States. The campus of the university is spread across an area of 84 acres. UAMS, being an academic health center, includes the only medical school in Arkansas. The institution is organized into the following academic divisions:

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has an active student life. The intramural sports teams participate in flag football, basketball, and softball. UAMS is home to a student run newsletter known as the “Jones Eye Institute Outlook Newsletters”. The journal called “Vision Magazine” is also published by the institution.
