The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith was founded in 1928 as the Fort Smith Junior College. It was named the Westark Junior College in 1966 and Westark Community College in 1972. The name was changed to Westark College in February 1998, and it gained a university status on January 1, 2002. Presently, it is the sixth largest university in Arkansas. The main campus of the university covers more than 125 acres. It is organized into the following colleges:
