The University of Charleston is a private, co-educational university located in Charleston, West Virginia. The university was established by the Southern Methodist denomination in 1888. It was initially known as the Barboursville Seminary. The University of Charleston offers associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in various fields of study. A doctorate degree in pharmacy is also offered by the university. The University of Charleston has the following academic divisions:

  • Morris Harvey Division of Arts & Sciences
  • Robert C. Byrd Center for Pharmacy Education

The University of Charleston is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division II and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The athletic teams of the university are nicknamed the Golden Eagles. The school sponsors teams in baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, tennis, cross country, volleyball and softball, among others.
