The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, or UCHSC, was initially part of the University of Colorado System. In 2004, it merged with the University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) to form the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center. Since then, it has been renamed to University of Colorado Denver. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse fields of study. It is organized into the following academic divisions:
UCHSC has sports teams that participate in various sports such as football, volleyball, basketball, or softball in Intramural Sports.
UCDHSC is located in a large city, in Denver, CO. The school is a public institution. Degree levels at UCDHSC top out at the Doctoral degree.
Students at the school often study medicine, music, and architecture and planning.
The admissions department at UCDHSC does not accept all those who apply. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 470 to 600 in 2007. A quarter of students admitted in 2007 scored 595 or higher on the math SAT.
The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, the school tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff.
UCDHSC offers classes to 21,658 students (14,365 full-time equivalent).
The school has a large share of part-time students.
The school reports its educational mission is:
"The University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center is a new university composed of three University of Colorado campuses ùDowntown Denver, Ninth and Colorado, and Fitzsimons at Aurora. The University Of Colorado Board of Regents created the new university on July 1, 2004, with the consolidation of the University of Colorado at Denver and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. The new universityÆs mission spans the scopes of its parts and its vision is to:
ò Become the premier urban research university with nationally ranked programs of teaching, clinical care and community service throughout Colorado.
ò Provide access to higher education for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students with increased multicultural diversity through recruitment and pipeline initiatives.
ò Offer new interdisciplinary programs of education and research in the life sciences, professional programs and liberal arts.
ò Become a more entrepreneurial university with two campuses in the Denver/Aurora metropolitan area and the state.
ò Develop regional business and community partnerships that stimulate new programs and an improved economy."
