The University of Kentucky, also referred to as UK, is a public coeducational research university located in Lexington, Kentucky. It is the largest land-grant university of the state. The institution was established in 1865 and currently offers admission to over 25,000 students every year. The university offers various majors in the field of media studies.
University of Kentucky’s sports teams are nicknamed the Wildcats. The official mascot of the team is "Scratch the Wildcat" and is also referred to as "Blue", "Scratch", or "The Wildcat". The university has men's and women's teams in basketball, cross country running, golf, rifle shooting, soccer, swimming and diving, track and field, and tennis. There are also separate women's teams in gymnastics, softball, and volleyball. In addition, the university sponsors a club-level men's ice hockey team.
The school has a greater breadth of degree programs (majors) than most colleges of its size. University Of Kentucky is known for its programs in media.
Admission to the school is not automatic; not everyone who applies gets in. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 490. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 500 and 630.
