The University of Maine at Presque Isle, also known as UMPI, is part of the University of Maine System. It was established as Aroostook State Normal School in 1903. It was renamed as University of Maine at Presque Isle after its merger with University of Maine System in 1968. It is situated in Presque Isle. UMPI offers courses in business, recreation, social and life sciences, education, and natural sciences. The campus is spread across an area of 150 acres.

UMPI’s athletics division sponsors more than 10 varsity sports teams. They participate in a wide variety of sports including cross-country running, soccer, basketball and Nordic skiing. The sports teams are nicknamed as the Owls. The university has a campus radio station called the WUPI as well.
