The University of Maryland Baltimore County, also referred to as UMBC, is a public coeducational research university. It is located in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States, within the community of Cantonsville. The school was established in the year 1966. It grants admission to over 8,000 students every year. The school offers degree courses in mathematics, science, fine arts, computer science and engineering, and liberal arts.

University of Maryland Baltimore County’s sports teams are known as the UMBC Retrievers. The school's official mascot goes by the name of “True Grit”. It is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever which is the state dog of Maryland. The students are offered sports programs in track and field, basketball, and baseball. Various club sports such as ice hockey, sky diving, sailing, tennis, rowing, and martial arts are also sponsored by the university.
