University of Maryland Eastern Shore, also referred to as UMES, is located in Princess Anne, Maryland, United States. The university was established in the year 1886 and is under the University System of Maryland. Originally, UMES was known as the Delaware Conference Academy. Notable alumni of UMES are Billy Thompson, former NFL player; Art Shell, former NFL player and coach; and James Duncan, former NFL player. The university's athletic teams are known as the Hawks. Female student participate in sports such as bowling, softball, tennis, basketball, and volleyball.
