University of Maryland Eastern Shore, also referred to as UMES, is located in Princess Anne, Maryland, United States. The university was established in the year 1886 and is under the University System of Maryland. Originally, UMES was known as the Delaware Conference Academy. It gained university status in the year 1970. UMES offers degrees to students through its four academic divisions. These are:

  • Agriculture and Natural Sciences
  • Arts and Professions
  • Business and Technology
  • Graduate Studies

Notable alumni of UMES are Billy Thompson, former NFL player; Art Shell, former NFL player and coach; and James Duncan, former NFL player. The university's athletic teams are known as the Hawks. Male students participate in sports such as cross country, outdoor track, baseball, basketball, and tennis. Female student participate in sports such as bowling, softball, tennis, basketball, and volleyball.
