University of North Alabama, also known as UNA, is a coeducational university located in Florence, Alabama, United States. It was originally established in 1830 as LaGrange College. It is the state's oldest, four-year, public university. The main campus is spread across an area of over 120 acres. UNA was ranked as a top tier public university in the Southern Master’s category of U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Colleges (2008 edition). It offers a wide variety of degrees and programs through the following academic divisions:
UNA operates one of the nation's most successful collegiate athletic programs. It competes in the NCAA Division II's Gulf South Conference. The sports teams are nicknamed the Lions.
