Founded in 1862, the University of South Dakota, or USD, is the state’s oldest university. It is located in Vermillion, South Dakota. USD is governed by the South Dakota Board of Regents. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse fields of study. USD is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • School of Health Sciences
  • School of Law

USD’s athletic teams are nicknamed the Coyotes. The university competes at the NCAA Division I level and is a member of the Great West Conference for all sports.
