The University of Utah, also referred to as 'The U' or 'the U of U', is a publicly funded research university located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is part of the Utah System of Higher Education. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. It is organized into the following academic divisions:
The university’s sports teams are nicknamed the Utes. University of Utah competes in the NCAA's Division I as part of the Mountain West Conference.

Students at the school often study media, family and social work, and liberal arts.
The admissions department at University Of Utah does not accept all those who apply. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 500 to 630 in 2007. A quarter of students admitted in 2007 scored 640 or higher on the math SAT.
The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, the school tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff.
