The University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, also known as UW-Whitewater, is located in Whitewater, Wisconsin. It was established in the year 1868. UW-Whitewater is a part of the University of Wisconsin System. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs through the following academic divisions:
UW-Whitewater’s athletic teams are nicknamed the Warhawks. The university is a member of the NCAA Division III. It is also a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). Some of the notable alumni are John Belushi, Saturday Night Live comedian; Mark Neumann, US congressman; and Sean Patrick Little, novelist and illustrator.

The most common majors at the school are in media, art studies, and business and management.
UW Whitewater does not have an open admissions system. Not everyone who applies is accepted.
A tenure system is one way the school works to keep a high-quality staff.

Student dorms or apartments are common at the school. UW Whitewater student athletes compete in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competitions.

In addition to the system and core missions, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has the following select mission:
a) The University offers an extensive range of undergraduate programs and degrees, including interdisciplinary programs, in letters, sciences, and the arts, as well as programs and degrees leading to professional specialization.
b) The University offers graduate education built clearly upon its undergraduate emphases and strengths with particular emphasis in the fields of business and education.
c) The University expects scholarly activity, including research, scholarship and creative endeavor, that supports its programs at the associate and baccalaureate degree level, its selected graduate programs, and its special mission.
