Virginia Commonwealth University, or VCU, is a large, public research university located in downtown Richmond, Virginia, United States. It was founded in 1968 as a result of a merger between Richmond Professional Institute and Medical College of Virginia. VCU is one of the Virginia universities rated RU/ H (Research Universities (high research activity) by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. It is organized into the following academic divisions:
