Walden University, founded in 1970, is a research-intensive distance learning school geared for working professionals. The University offers online courses leading to Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in management, education, psychology, and health and human services. Walden does not have a campus. All courses are offered over the Internet. The online classroom environment is asynchronous, meaning that students participate at their convenience within an assigned period. Weekly discussion topics, required readings, and assignments are all listed in an online syllabus provided to students. Many programs use a Personal Start Page that offers central access to courses, student information, and support services.
