It was established by the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education in the year 1981. The college received degree-granting authority by the New Jersey State Board of Higher Education in the year 1987.

The Soccer Club and Basketball Club of Warren County Community College offers students opportunities to participate in intercollegiate sports competitions.
