West Coast University (WCU) is a system of for-profit schools exclusively focused on providing training in various health care fields. Founded in 1909 with only a single classroom, the school now has six campuses across three states -- California, Texas and Florida. Some areas of concentration include nursing, dental hygiene, physical therapy, pharmacy, and occupational therapy. Students may pursue bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Some programs are available completely online. WCU's bachelor's degree program in dental hygiene is one of only four in the state of California to offer the degree.
West Coast University is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission.
Faculty members at West Coast University are experienced and distinguished working professionals who bring their real-world knowledge to the classroom. These clinical experts include dentists, nursing practitioners, dental hygienists, and medical professionals from several different specialties. Instruction includes a combination of classroom lecture and hands-on skills training. Instructors seek to train students to become highly skilled professionals through a dynamic educational experience.
As a commuter school, WCU does not offer on-campus housing for its students. West Coast University prides itself on its state-of-the-art lab facilities and equipment. For some programs, these lab settings allow students to hone their skills on actual patients. Students have the opportunity to study abroad through WCU's International Education program. A low student to faculty ratio allows students individual access to their instructors. Students may also take advantage of the school library and virtual bookstore. WCU's Career Services department assists students with resume building, interview preparation, job search skills, and job placement. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
