Weatherford College was founded on July 5, 1869 as the Phoenix Masonic Lodge school. In June 1889, the name of the school was changed to Weatherford College. It gained the status of a junior college in 1921. The campus is nestled in an area of around 90 acres in Weatherford, Texas. Apart from this campus, Weatherford College also has education centers in Mineral Wells and Decatur. WC offers a number of degrees and certificate programs in diverse areas of study.
Weatherford College participates in a large number of sports like baseball, basketball and rodeo. The college is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
As of the autumn of 2009, Weatherford College reports a student population of more than 5500 from about 4500 in 2007. The Health and Human Sciences department has added many new program offerings, including a two-year degree in Diagnostic Sonography and Radiology Technology. The school's engineering degree program has since been discontinued.
