West Virginia University Institute of Technology, also known as WVU Tech, is a four-year college located in Montgomery, West Virginia, United States. It was established in 1895 as a sub-college level Montgomery Preparatory School of WVU. After a few name and status changes, it was finally renamed as West Virginia University Institute of Technology in 1941. The main campus is spread across an area of 200 acres. WVU Tech offers bachelor’s degrees in diverse areas of study. WVU Tech is organized into the following academic colleges:
WVU Tech’s athletics department sponsors several men’s and women’s sports teams. They compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Mid-South Conference. The athletic teams are nicknamed as the Golden Bears.
The main campus of WVU Tech is in Montgomery, WV (a rural site not far from an urban area). The school is a public school. WVU Tech offers degrees up to the Bachelor's degree.
The school offers more choices of majors than most colleges its size. WVU Tech students most commonly major in a field related to engineering, nursing and emergency medicine, and medical administration.
The school does not accept everyone who applies. In 2007-2008, SAT verbal scores of half of students were 380 to 500. Three-fourths of students accepted in 2007-2008 had SAT math scores of 380 or more.
The school's faculty/student ratio compares favorably with most colleges. WVU Tech offers tenure to reward and retain some professors.
In 2007-2008, the school had 1,453 enrolled students.
WVU Tech makes available a lot of student housing. Student athletes at the school belong to the Mid-South Conference for major sports. WVU Tech takes athletics seriously enough to offer athletic financial aid to a significant portion of its students.
