Winthrop University is a public university located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, United States. It was established as the Winthrop Training School in 1886. It gained university status in 1992. The university was ranked the 8th best Public University in the Southeast by US News and World Report (2006 edition). It offers more than 35 undergraduate and over 20 graduate degrees through the following academic divisions:

  • The Richard W. Riley College of Education

The student body of Winthrop University is diverse and ethnic. It includes students from over 40 U.S. states and more than 40 countries. The university is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and participates on the Division 1 level. Winthrop's sports teams are known as the Eagles.
