Overview of Yale University

Yale is located in a medium-sized city, in New Haven, Connecticut. The school is a private, not-for-profit institution. Degree levels at Yale top out at the Doctoral degree.

Areas of Study

One of the good things about the school is its wide range of programs leading to degrees. The range of program offerings available from Yale is especially impressive compared to its number of students. Students at the school often study science, music, drama and performing arts, fine arts, liberal arts, and conservation and resource management.

Yale Selectivity

The admissions department at Yale does not accept all those who apply. In 2005, 90% of applicants were rejected at the school. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 700 to 780 in 2005. A quarter of students admitted in 2005 scored 780 or higher on the math SAT. It's not unusual for students to find their classmates include those from other parts of the country.

Faculty

Students at Yale benefit from the low student/teacher ratio. The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, Yale tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff.

Student Body

The school offers classes to 11,483 students (11,360 full-time equivalent).

Student Life

Yale serves primarily full-time students. Many students live in housing on or near campus. Students sports include formal participation in Ivy Group competitions.
