Founded in 1701, Yale University is a private university located in New Haven, Connecticut. Yale is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. It is also a member of the Ivy League. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. Yale is organized into the following academic divisions:
Yale University fields more than 30 varsity athletic teams. They participate in the Ivy League Conference, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association. Yale University is an NCAA Division I member.

One of the good things about the school is its wide range of programs leading to degrees. The range of program offerings available from Yale is especially impressive compared to its number of students. Students at the school often study science, music, drama and performing arts, fine arts, liberal arts, and conservation and resource management.
The admissions department at Yale does not accept all those who apply. In 2007-2008, 90% of applicants were rejected at the school. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 700 to 800 in 2007-2008. A quarter of students admitted in 2007-2008 scored 790 or higher on the math SAT.
Students at the school benefit from the low student/teacher ratio. The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, the school tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff.
Yale offers classes to 11,454 students (10,125 full-time equivalent).
Many students live in housing on or near campus. Students sports include formal participation in Ivy Group competitions.
