Job Title: Manager, Exhibits
Type of Company: A trade organization which promotes the use of small corporate jets.
Education: Longwood University
Previous Experience: Internship with the same company.
Job Tasks: I have worked on various aspects of event management and sales at my current organization, a non-profit trade association which promotes the use of business aircraft.
In conjunction with the vice-president for exhibitions, I am currently responsible for all aspects of exhibitor relations for our three annual conventions: the European Business Aviation Conference & Exposition (Geneva); the Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exposition (Singapore); and the annual U.S. meeting & convention. I assist with exhibit logistics, contracts, financial collection and billing, electronic communication, exhibitor relations, and on-site management, doing everything from finding new exhibitors, to conducting the positioning lottery to configuring the display floor to arranging the placement of booths and aircraft in the exhibit hall to developing and enforcing the rules & regulations. I also am responsible for the coordination of services, such as electricity, shipping and telecommunication orders.
Best and Worst Parts of the Job: The best part of my job is meeting and working with people. I am constantly in contact with our exhibitors and the representatives of companies we work with.
The worst part of my job is fielding our members' complaints about aspects of the association that I have no responsibility over.
Job Tips: In order to be successful in this career, you have to be highly organized. Make sure you are able to "put on a smile" even when you're not feeling glad. And never burn your bridges.
