Alabama graduate schools awarded over 964 graduate degrees from 22 colleges in 2008-2009. Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, Montevallo and Troy have the greatest number of graduate schools in Alabama. Popular graduate degree programs include Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Masters in Nursing (MSN) and Masters in Public Health (MPH).

There are 20 business schools in Alabama that offer MBA programs. There are many types of MBA degrees including an MBA in Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurial Management, Finance, Marketing, Operations and Technology Management. In addition to traditional Alabama business schools, students may now access graduate programs online. This is particularly important for students who do not have access to a program locally.
