Introduction to Adelanto, California
Adelanto, California, in San Bernardino County, is 7 miles NW of Victorville, California (center to center) and 43 miles N of Riverside, California. Part of the surrounding Riverside - San Bernardino metro area, the city is not isolated. Adelanto is home to some 18,130 residents.
In 1915, Adelanto was found by E. H. Richardson, the inventor of the Hotpoint Electric Iron. He bought the land for $75,000 and had intentions of developing a master planned community. He divided the land into one-acre plots and planned to build a respiratory hospital. In fact, it was his planning that laid the foundation for the present day City of Adelanto. In 1970, the city was incorporated and in November of 1992 it became a charter city.
