Introduction to Campbell, California
Campbell, California is 4 miles S of Santa Clara, California (center to center) and 4 miles SW of San Jose, California. It's located in Santa Clara county. It's not a primary high-tech city but it is part of the well known Silicon Valley. Campbell is the original location of the well known internet company, eBay. It's primarily a residential community.
Campbell History
Approximately one-third of the town was included in the 1839 Alta Rancho Rinconada de Los Gatos land grant. The city was established by Benjamin Campbell. In 1851 Campbell purchased land and produced hay and grain. In 1878 a railroad company purchased Campbell's acreage. By 1887 the first subdivision was constructed.
The city included numerous canneries and fruit packing facilities and became a prominent shipping center for the fruit produced in the region. The Campbell Fruit Grower's Union was a prominent cooperative. Over the years, the fruit orchards were replaced with homes and businesses. The city was incorporated in 1952.

Some of the notable attractions in the area include the Children's Discovery Museum, Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, The Winchester Mystery House and the Tech Museum of Innovation located in San Jose. The notable Hanoke Gardens is situated in Saratoga. The charming city of Los Gatos is a popular nearby destination.
Campbell Activities
The Los Gatos Creek Trail is popular with joggers and bicycle riders. The scenic Vasona Park is located in nearby Los Gatos and is popular for a variety of outdoor activities. The city includes numerous parks for recreational activities. Tourists enjoy visiting the wineries located in Santa Clara Valley and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Beaches along the Pacific Coast and the popular amusement park, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk are about an hour away. Downtown San Jose offers a variety of entertainment.
