Galt History
This original inhabitants of this area were Mivok Indians. In the early 1850s, Chism Cooper Fuggit helped develop a settlement which he named Liberty. Initially, it was used as a place where freight haulers would stop to rest their horses. Later, it became a stage coach stop. In 1869, Dr. Obed Harvey initiated the development of the town that eventually became Galt.
