Introduction to Tehachapi, California
During 1870s, Tehachapi was preceded by a settlement known as either Williamsburg or Tehichipa. In 1876, the Southern Pacific Railroad established its line through the Tehachapi Mountains. The town was originally known as Tehachapi Summit and was later renamed as Tehachapi. The city was incorporated in 1909.
