Windsor, California, in Sonoma County, is 9 miles NW of Santa Rosa, California (center to center) and 57 miles N of San Francisco, California. The town is conveniently located inside the Santa Rosa metropolitan area.
Windsor History
Although Windsor was only incorporated in 1992, the proposal to make to so came during the 1800s. The town began as an agricultural center in this area of rolling hills and plains. Hiram Lewis, one of the town settlers, came from England and this topography reminded him greatly of his own English countryside around Windsor Castle. The town thus came to be known as Windsor. Windsor was incorporated on July 1, 1992.
