Gulf Breeze History
The history of the city of Gulf Breeze could be traced to the arrival of Spaniard Tristan de Luna at Pensacola Bay in August of 1559. However, Spanish efforts at colonization were thwarted due to natural calamities and hostile Indians. The name Gulf Breeze was derived from the Gulf Breeze Cottages and Store located in the area. The first post office in Gulf Breeze was opened in 1936.
