Moultrie History
Moultrie became the county seat of Colquitt County in 1879. The city was named after a Revolutionary War hero, General William Moultrie. The city was initially served by the Georgia Northern Railway. By 1900, a number of farmers from north Georgia and the Carolinas visited the city and helped in the development of the land.
