Snellville History

Snellville was founded by Thomas Snell in the late 1870s. Along with his friend, James Sawyer, Snell built the first business establishment in this area. Their store was a success and was soon providing supplies to customers from the neighboring towns as well. In 1885, James Sawyer opened Snellville's first post office. The City of Snellville received its charter in 1923.

Snellville offers a wide variety of opportunities for recreation. Local parks include facilities like lighted tennis courts, soccer fields, sand volleyball court, playgrounds, picnic areas and swimming pools. The local Lenora Park and Disc Golf Course is a large disc golf course spread over 112 acres of land. It is also home to a water park complete with a lazy river, a children's area and slides. It also has playgrounds, baseball and softball fields, as well as a fishing lake.
