Waipio History
Waipio is in Honolulu County, which was formed on April 30, 1907. It is the site of the Battle of Kipapa Gulch. In fact the battle began at the Waikakalaua Gulch and in due course made its way into the Kipapa Gulch. Waipio is a Hawaiian term meaning "curved water". It is a census - designated place of the Ewa District.
