Lombard, Illinois, in Du Page county, is 5 miles E of Wheaton, Illinois (center to center) and 18 miles W of Chicago, Illinois. The village is included in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Lombard History
Lombard was originally part of the Potawatomi Indian lands. It was first settled by the whites in the 1830s. The Galena and Chicago Union Railroad entered the village around 1848. This made it easier for local farmers and merchants to travel to Chicago conveniently. A number of commercial buildings developed around the train station. In 1869, Lombard was officially incorporated. It was named after Josiah Lombard, a banker and real estate developer in Chicago.
