Mount Sterling History

The city of Mount Sterling is the county seat of Montgomery County. The city is located in the Bluegrass region. It was settled in the year 1792 by Hugh Forbes, a Scotsman. He was known to hold a land grant near an ancient tribal burial site known as the "Little Mountain." In order to pick a name for the developing settlement, Forbes combined the name of the mound with Sterling. The city was known for its business potential and witnessed several developments in business, education, and infrastructure.
