Nicholasville History
The city of Nicholasville was founded in the year 1798. The city was named for George Nicholas, a Revolutionary War colonel. He was known as the "Father of Kentucky's Constitution." The first charter of Nicholasville was passed in 1812. Initially there was no post office in Nicholasville and mails were carried on horseback from various nearby towns. Benjamin Netherland was appointed as the first post master of the city and held the position from 1801 to 1822.
