Hammond History

Hammond is named after Swedish immigrant called Peter Hammond, who first settled in this area in 1818. At the time of American Civil War, Hammond served as a shoemaking center for the Confederacy. The city is also known as the Strawberry Capital of America for being a major shipping point for the strawberries.
