Newburyport History
The original inhabitants of Newburyport were the Pawtucket Indians. The Europeans discovered Newbury in 1630 and settled down in the area. Gradually, the port of Newbury turned into a fishing and trading point. In 1974, Newbury broke off and became Newburyport.
