Southaven History
Southaven was officially incorporated in 1978. It is located in DeSoto County, which was established on February 9, 1836. The area was originally inhabited by the Mississippian Indians. It is the childhood home of well - known novelist John Grisham, and singer and songwriter Cory Branan. The city is so named because of its location south of Whitehaven.
