Des Peres History
Des Peres City derived its name from a French word meaning 'fathers.' The city was named after the river Des Peres, which ran through the town. The Michigamea, Moingwena, Tamaora and Kaskaskia Native Americans were the first settlers in this area. The first Europeans settled in this area in the early 1800s. By 1850, the city’s population increased to 75,000.
