Holdrege History
Holdrege is in Phelps County. It is also the county seat of Phelps County. Holdrege was first settled in by the Swedes in the 1880s. It was named after George W. Holdrege, who was the general manager of the Burlington, Chicago and Quincy Railroad Company. Holdrege was incorporated as a village in 1884.
