Sunland Park History
Previously known as Anapra, the town of Sunland Park is named after the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. Historically, the town dates back over 5,000 years as a Native American settlement. It was first settled by Spanish explorers in the 1500s. In 1924, Anapra was purchased by the Southern Pacific Railroad and came to be known by its current name.
