Upper Arlington History
The founders of Upper Arlington were real estate developers Ben and King Thompson. They bought farmland from James Miller in 1913. This land later developed into Upper Arlington. Though the Thompsons wanted to call it Country Club District, the area went on to be known as "Upper Arlington."

The city has 33 parks for the public, which are spread out over an area of 170 acres. The parks are designed to offer various amenities; some have excellent athletic facilities while others serve as picnic and relaxation areas. There are three public swimming pools in the city as well. The recreation department organizes special events around the year like the Spring Fling, Summer Celebration, Winter Festival and Tree Lighting and the Fall Fest.
