Guymon History
The area now known as Guymon was purchased by Edward T. Guymon in the 1890s. The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway first entered the area in 1901. At that time, it was known as Sanford. Rock Island officials later renamed the city to avoid confusion with Stratford, Texas. Guymon was officially incorporated in 1901. It is the county seat of Texas County, which was formed on November 16, 1907.
