Introduction to Gresham, Oregon
Gresham is situated at the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge in Multnomah County. The city of Portland is nearby. The scenic Cascade Mountains can be seen from Gresham. It's surrounded by beautiful rivers and well known Mt. Hood is close by.
History
The area was recognized as a campground due to pioneers spending the night there before they reached Portland. The residents could not establish the city until they had a post office and a postal code. To help his community, one of the local store owners allowed his store to serve as the post office in 1884. Gresham was incorporated in 1905. The municipality was named in tribute to Postmaster General Walter Quinton Gresham.

Activities and Entertainment
The region features excellent hiking trails and biking opportunities. Several ski resorts are only an hour away. Cross-country skiing and snowmobiling opportunities are located near Mount Hood. The popular Nadaka Loop Trail traverses through a portion of the city. The nearby Columbia River Gorge is a well known location for wind surfers. The Springwater Trail is enjoyed by residents and visitors.
The region features quality golf courses including a championship course which offers scenic views of Mt. Hood. Residents and visitors participate in activities such as fishing, boating, white water rafting and water skiing in the numerous local rivers. The Pacific Ocean is approximately an hour away. Oxbow Park is a well known destination for family picnics and having access to a popular local river. Camping is also available in the park.
The historic downtown area includes attractive tree lined streets, numerous restaurants and shops. Gresham Station Shopping Center is a popular destination. Gresham features a variety of music festivals. Residents and visitors enjoy ballet, opera, theatrical performances and the symphony at nearby Portland.
Transportation
The Tri Met's bus system as well as the MAX Light Rail serve the city. Portland International Airport provides air flights.
