Introduction to Port Lavaca, Texas
Port Lavaca History
Lavaca was founded as a result of the Linnville raid of 1840. The raid turned most of the houses in Linville into heaps of glowing ashes. People who moved out of the town helped bolster the population of Port Lavaca. The city became the county seat of Calhoun County, when the latter was established in 1846. In 1847, the area turned into a terminus for ships that sailed on the Morgan Lines.
