The Anoka-Ramsey Community College began modestly with 600 students in 1965. Over the years it has grown into a huge campus spread over 103 acres in Coon Rapids, serving approximately 10,000 students every year. It is situated along the banks of the Mississippi River. Downtown Minneapolis lies 20 miles south of the campus.
The college has a second campus located in Cambridge, which started operations from 1978. Other than these two campuses, ARCC (as it is referred to in short), also offers courses in several offsite locations spread out in the neighboring communities.
The hockey team of ARCC is known as 'The Golden Rams'.
